I help people rediscover joy and peace. That can seem like an odd way to respond with what I do, but that is the heart of what keeps me engaged and passionate about my work. I believe change happens through insight as well as addressing the root cause of issues or difficulties. I am not a therapist that will simply help you change behavior or make different choices; I work to understand what is motivating your unhelpful thinking or behavior that has kept you from being able to make change yourself.
I utilize EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and DBT (Dialectic Behavior Therapy). I am trained in all of the above and have extensive experience using these in individual, family and couples therapy. I am also specially trained in EMDR with dissociation, addiction and eating disorders. Finally, I am newly trained in hypnosis and have utilized that with a variety of different issues.
I have worked in this field for over 11 years and have worked in both residential and hospital settings with clients struggling with self-harm, suicidal ideation as well as clients with depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder. I also have experience with high conflict couples and families. I love working with couples and families and thrive on helping to slow down conflict to help members have a different experience in sessions that they can begin to generalize to their actual lives (i.e. you won’t just fight in my office, I don’t believe in that).
I still work in residential treatment and do part-time private practice. I am married and have 2 intense and energetic boys, 5 and under 1 year. I also have 2 dogs, Hank a Rottweiler and Max a lab mix. I enjoy painting, organizing and backpacking trips.
I am available on Thursday evenings, 3:30pm-9:30pm, and Monday evenings after 4:30pm.
